Khris sighed as she shoved a microwavable container in the microwave. It was filled with chicken soup, Khris' dinner for that night. She punched in four minutes and set it to start. Though most people opposed soup in June, she didn't mind. In her wet suit, the air-conditioned Locker Room was very cold.
She was still in her wet suit because after she had her dinner, she would be going back to work with Echo. She yawned, staring at the timer on the microwave. She was tired and hungry, today hadn't been the best of days.
It wasn't that Echo had been naughty or anything, it was just he was very tiring. He had a lot of energy and was constantly screaming for Khris to go back in the water whenever she got out to go get him food, or go use the bathroom, or take a break. So reluctuctantly, she had gone back.
When he was a little bit older, perhaps six or seven months, she would start to teach him that screaming his little head off wouldn't make Khris come back to the pool with him. But since he was still very young and needed constant human attention, she had complied with his screaming demands.
So after her little dinner, she would go back to him and try and wear him out so tomorrow he would not be as tiresome. She had absolutely no regrets and no second thoughts about caring for him, and she loved him to bits. But sometimes she wished he had a little less energy, or wished that she had a little more.
