Khris yawned at batted her eyes gently as she opened them. The sun was bright and at only six o' clock in the morning, it was warm. She guessed around seventy-five already, because she was sweating in her pyjamas. She sat up, the hammock that she was laying in swinging gently.
"Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" a long scream caught her attention, turning it to the Medical Pool that her hammock was situated in. She smiled as she saw a two-month old dolphin calf swimming in circles closest to where her hammock was set up, screaming his head off.
"I'm coming Echo!" she called affectionately as she shifted her way out of her hammock. She looked over deck as she did, her eyes searching for something very important.
The deck was set up just to her liking. It had a refrigerator, her hammock(equivilant to her bed), a filing cabinet filled with clothes and it even had a very small, 3x3 desk for her to do work on. This pool was practically her apartment.
Because Echo had been abandoned as a calf, and seeing how he was only two months old, he needed constant care. And, so did Khris. So she aranged for all her most important things to be moved up to the medical pool so she could live there and take care of her little calf at the same time.
She walked over to the filing cabinet and removed her wet suit and a hairbrush. It was black with a blue stripe running down either side of it. She went quickly to the bathroom, Echo screaming behind her, and changed. She brushed her hair and then pulled it into a high pony-tail. She jogged back to the pool and walked over. As soon as she slid into the water, Echo was at her side.
She laughed and he practically attached himself to her as she swam. "Are you hungry Echo?" she asked him, gigggling as he swam circles around her. As if he understood her, he squealed and made a rasberry song. Now he might not have understood her english, but he most likely understood his schedule. When "mommy" went into the pool for the first time in the morning, it ment he was getting food.
She swam to the edge of the pool and slid out, despite the loud vocal objections of Echo. She walked over to the refrigerator, opened it up and pulled out a bottle attached to a long tube. The bottle was filled with a milky-white substance, a perfectly formed formula for the calves at Journey to Atlantis.
She carefully made her way back into the water, keeping her equiptment above the water as she walked in the shallow area. The first thing Khris had taught Echo was his beaching excercises. It had took him practically his whole life to that date to learn it, but he did. She had him "beach" himself onto a small floating dock and then wrapped her arm around him.
Very carefully, she slid the tube down his throat. He figited, but not much else. Slowly she let the formula slide down the tube and into his stomach. When his right amount was given, she removed it carefully and sent him back into the water. He swam off a few feet, and then came right back to Khris. She laughed and hopped out of the pool once more and put the tube in the refrigerator.
Swimming with dolphins, she thought to herself as she jumped into the shallow water and began tiny swimming motions. Echo sidled right up to her and followed her around the pool. There's no better way to start the day.
